[foreign aggressions often awaken a nation from its slumbers and thus help make it strong;calamities always help to make a nation flourishing much distress regenerates a nation] 邦:國家。《左傳·昭公四年》載:「鄰國之難,不可虞也。或多難以固其國,啟其疆土;或無難以喪其國,失其守宇。」後用「多難興邦」指多災多難,使人民勤奮,能把國家振興起來
