a-構成副詞，go去，過去
參考詞彙
(1)ago,before這兩個詞都可表示「在若干時間以前」，但用法不同，初學者容易搞錯。
(2)ago，應注意兩點：(1)用於一般過去時，(2)它所指的時間是從現在算起。
A short while ago, my sister helped me to carry one of my old bookcases up the stairs.
片刻之前，我妹妹幫我把我的一個舊書櫃抬上了樓。
It was stolen twenty years ago when Ted was a boy of fifteen.
那輛自行車是在20年前當泰德還是個15歲的小伙子時被偷去的。
(3)before，也應注意兩點：(1)它用於過去完成時，(2)它所指的時間不是從現在算起，而是從過去某一時刻算起，有時可以與previously換用
A short time before, great trees had covered the countryside for miles around.

Last summer, I finally left the firm that I had joined eighteen years before.

(4)註：有時before=earlier
